Peterborough Junior Motocross Club held the ninth round of its club championship on Sunday. Despite a poor weather forecast the club were very lucky and didn’t see any rain at all until half way through the last block of racing. The Youth 125’s were the ones who copped the brunt of it as a torrential downpour hit them put an end to the days proceedings soon after their race. This meant the autos, 65’s and small wheel 85’s only got two blocks but at least they went home clean and dry!!
James Camwell continued his good form in the autos with two out of two wins and a very mature performance. Young Harvey Buttriss must be the hot favourite for the 2008 championship. He kept close to James throughout the day with some great riding. The battle for third and fourth place was between Jake Barsby and Luke Everett with both lads riding really well in the dusty conditions and finishing in that order.
There were a few new faces in the Junior 65’s, but club riders Charlie Buttriss and Max Target set the pace. In the first race Charlie holeshot, but soon made a small mistake and Max T shot past and never looked back taking a great win. Charlie recovered to second place and a flying Max Pinney was next up in third. In the second race Charlie holeshot again and held the lead all the way to the end with Max T second and Max P in third again. In a perfect world this would have set up a potential third race “winner takes all” thriller, but the weather intervened and the last block wasn’t run leaving Charlie as overall winner courtesy of the final race win rule.
In the Small Wheel 85’s Jordan Hind lead from start to finish in both races and took the overall win. Jordan Jugg was next up with two impressive rides, never far behind Jordan H. Third place went to Hind Junior, Max, who put in a good performance including a dead last to third place ride after going down at the start corner in race one. Justin Dillon had two good rides for fourth overall.
In the Big Wheels the winner was never in doubt. Ben Rollinson cleaned up with three wins, but he didn’t have it all his own way. Sam Barney holeshot the first race & lead for a while but dumped it before the end of the first lap. Will Griffin inherited the lead but soon dumped it as well leaving a clean path for Ben to take the first race win. With the exception of Ben and Daley Coldron who took second place, it was a day of inconsistantcy in the top ten with only nine points separating third and eighth place. Charlie Rippingham eventually took third overall with two sixths and a second place. A quick mention for young Aaron Edwards who took third in race two, but finished the day with an injury.
The Youth 125’s also got three races, the last one being extremely wet! Sean Satchwell showed his usual full on style and took the overall with two wins and a second place. Peter Cole rode well with two-second places and fourth in the wet race. Third place went to an equally impressive Luke Riley whose consistent riding put him well clear in third place. The unluckiest rider of the day was Joe Wagstaff who DNF’d the first race after a crash, limped onto his bike and had an average second race, but holeshot the last wet race and blitzed the field taking the final win.
No surprises in the adults, Matt White made it look easy with three very comfortable wins. When I say no surprises, there was one…. Richard Chapman stayed on his bike for all three races!! (Sorry Rich) taking a well overdue second place. Jack Barwell, James Barney and James Barnwell battled it out for third, fourth and fifth places eventually finishing in that order.
