Round 9 of Club Championship

Butter Cup Farm Chatteris

Clear blue sky and blisteringly hot temperatures greeted the riders for round 9 of the club championship. A well-prepared tack made for some exciting racing including some fantastic battles in the autos. Little Troy Willerton looked like he had the meeting sewn up with two impressive wins until a last race mishap cost him dearly. Ashley Rudd was super consistent with three second places which made his final points tally tie with Troy, but courtesy of the higher last place finish Ashley took the overall honours. Thomas Brown finished the day in third place but actual won the last race with a blistering performance.

In the Junior 65’s Max Hind lived up to his name with the first “MAX”imum of the day. Charlie Buttriss had a brilliant time with three convincing second places. Ben Stafford kept his cool in the heat and slipped into third place overall.

In the Small-wheel 85’s Rob Nicoll opened the day with a great win closely followed by Jordan Hind. In the next race it was Jordan ’s turn to holeshot and win the race with Rob hot on his tail. This meant the overall would go down to the last race. Rob holeshot whilst Jordan had to fight through the pack leading to a grandstand finish, which Rob held by a bike length for the overall win. Never far behind was George Redhead despite a few technical problems. One quick mention for Leonnie Smith, the only girl in the pack, who rode fantastically well, including some great starts.

In the Big-wheel 85’s Sean Satchwell rode his Yamaha to all three wins, but he really had to fight for them in some of the races. Luke Riley also had a great day getting overall second place after some really good battles and smooth riding. Last podium place went to Billy King who seems to be getting faster every meeting. A quick shout for Mark Sharman, who managed a second place in one of the races.

Another competitive class was the Youth 125’s. Joe Fisher took the overall win with two convincing wins and a second place. Second race winner, Ashley Moulds rode really well and earned second overall with his great riding. Third place went to Joe Wagstaff, another lad who is getting faster every meeting with his second podium finish in a row. Unluckiest rider of the day was Josh McDonald who had two third places in the opening races, but a mechanical problem in the last race spoilt his chances.

In the Adults there were no surprises at the top of the pack with Cain Firth claiming the third Maximum of the day. Adie Thompson nailed second place with some cool riding in the soaring heat. Sean Smith, Lewis Chapman and Simon Sparrow traded places all day keeping everyone entertained finishing in third, fourth and fifth place respectively. Unluckiest rider of the day was in the Adults was usual highflier Matty White who got second in the first race but has some torrid luck in the other two races.
