Carl Coleman Memorial Meeting & 6th Club Champ

Buttercup Farm (Chatteris)

14th May 2006

A nice day greeted the 140 + riders for the 6th Club Championship and annual Carl Coleman Memorial meeting. A perfectly prepared, but dusty track made for some interesting racing.

First up the Auto’s. Staying on was the name of the game in this class. Jake Edey and Ashley Rudd were both fast and led races, but both pressed the self-destruct button at several points in the day. This left the door wide open for William Munroe to take a 3rd and two brilliant wins for first overall, much to his Dads delight. Thomas Brown took the other win and a pair of seconds for 2nd overall and Ashley Rudd fought back to claim 3rd place.

In the Junior 65’s Jordan Holliday and Max Hind had the edge on the rest of the pack finishing about 5 seconds apart for 1st and 2nd respectively in every race. Caylem Cobb achieved 4th in every race, which was enough to take the last podium spot overall. Unluckiest rider of the day was Grant Sparrow, who had achieved 3rd place in the first two races, but he lost a gearshift in the last race and dropped down the placings.

In the SW 85’s Jordan Hind took the first race win after battling hard with Daley Coldron. He also took the second race win comfortably after Daley had mechanical gremlins. In the last race Jordan and Daley’s gate didn’t drop which left them with some work to do. Jordan Hind raced through the pack to 2nd only to drop it on the last lap, but he still did enough for the overall win. This left a flying Jordan Jugg to take his first race win in the 85’s and 3rd overall. Aaron Edwards battled hard and his consistency earned him second overall for the day.

In the Big Wheel 85’s day member, Joe Stevens and club rider Sean Satchwell were battling hard up the front. Sean took the first race win with Joe getting 2nd. It was visa versa in the second race, which meant the overall win went down to the last race. Unfortunately for Sean his bike let him down, which meant Joe cruised to victory and the overall win and Sean dropped down the results. This left the door open for Liam Askew and Harry Turner to secure 2nd and 3rd overall respectively. Harry was also awarded the rider of the meeting award.

There was a good turn out in the Schoolboy 125s, with the winner also securing the annual Carl Coleman Memorial trophy. This turned out to be Craig Bryber whose smooth riding gave him two wins and the overall victory. Joe Fisher won the last race and secured 2nd overall and Ashley Moulds who was always right up there took 3rd overall.

In the adults it was business as usual for Cain Firth who took the overall victory. However, he didn’t have it all his own way when a fall in the last race meant Matt White cleared off into the distance for the win and 2nd overall. Adie Thompson was very consistent, finishing in third place all day.  Simon Sparrow is really flying at the moment and took a superb fourth overall.
