Peterborough Junior Motocross Club held its annual “East of England challenge” two-day meeting over the weekend at Buttercup Farm Chatteris. This incorporated round eight of the club championship on the Saturday and round two of the Championship (Cancelled earlier in the year) on the Sunday. The club would like to thank Washbrook Farm Motocross for sponsoring the meeting.
Someone up there was looking after PJMC on Sunday. Despite looming black clouds circling the track the day stayed dry and the track remained perfect all day
In the automatics James Camwell never looked in danger of loosing the lead, dominating all three races from start to finish. Little Harvey Buttriss is going to be one to watch next year putting in another solid performance with three fine seconds. Unlucky Luke Everett broke a chain in the first race, which dropped him down the order despite two-second places in the other races. Sam Curtis took full advantage of this to take the last spot on the podium after a good tussle with Jake Barsby.
In the Junior 65’s Ben Watson picked up from where he’d left off on the Saturday with another full house demonstrating why is the cream of the UK’s Junior riders at the moment. Robert Yates was also outstanding, the only other junior to clear the big table top and took second place in each race. Charlie Butteriss didn’t put a foot wrong all day and walked away with three creditable third places against some quality opposition.
The battle between Jordan Hind and Nathan Watson continued all day in the Small Wheel 85’s. Jordan had slightly faster lap times and took race one win, but a couple of falls in the day left the door wide open for Nathan who took full advantage with some superb riding and two wins for the overall. Jordan Jugg put in another solid performance with three third places despite riding one race with a flat tyre!
In the Big Wheel 85’s Ben Rollinson showed superb style and dominated the proceedings with a full house. George Redhead turned up the pace and finished the day in second place with three impressive rides. Jake Millward had a poor day by his standards, but still managed to come away with third place.
Some of the closest racing came from the Youth 125 group today. Richard Carter finished in 6th place but deserved much better. He holeshot races and led them for the majority. A couple of mistakes, particularly in the second race cost him a much higher overall place. Sean Satchwell took the first and last race win, but a rare mistake in race two dropped him down to second place overall. Ryan Watson took full advantage and his third, first and second places were enough to give him the overall on the day. Peter Cole had a really consistent weekend and led races from time to time. His consistency secured him the last spot on the podium. A quick mention for Joe Wagstaff, who finished in fourth place on a selection of borrowed bikes, including a CR 150f.
In the Adults as expected, Matt White took the first two wins and the overall. Darren Manning-Coe put in a strong performance including a win in the final race for second overall. Kev Lancaster was very consistent and took home third place ahead of Rob Meek whose second place in the last race moved him up to fourth overall.
